From the field
So far activity from black cutworm has been relatively low. Some slight pinhole feeding with minimal cutting has been observed, but nothing that required a rescue treatment. Due to the cool, wet conditions some wireworm damage has been observed in early planted fields but now that ground temperatures have risen, wireworms will probably not be a problem in the future.
We have seen many instances of corn injury due to carry over from last year’s bean chemicals in field corners where there was sprayer overlap. This is due to the dry summer we had last year. The lack of moisture did not allow the chemical residue to break down normally thus allowing for some residual chemical to affect this year’s crop.
