New Sales Agronomist Right at Home
Though she’s a relative newcomer to United Prairie, Ella Herges is no stranger to agriculture in east central Illinois. “I grew up on a grain and livestock farming operation near Paxton,” she says. “My grandfather started our farm in 1969 and has expanded over the years. I am the third generation, and my father and older brother work on the farm. My mother and grandmother do the bookkeeping as well.”
In 2013, Ella earned her bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University, where she majored in ag business economics and plant and soil science. After completing an internship with Pioneer, she joined the United Prairie staff in February of this year.
Ella enjoys getting out in the field, keeping an eye on crops, and meeting United Prairie customers. She has had the opportunity to work at a number of United Prairie locations, and is excited to put her talents and experiences to work for her customers.
“I have a lot of learning to do, but know that with the help of my coworkers, I will be able to grow,” Ella states. “Being fresh out of college, I feel that I have a diverse outlook on agriculture and may be able to suggest some different and new ways to approach situations and improve productivity. I believe in the sink or swim approach, and think that immersing myself in the culture is the best way to learn.”
For the time being, Ella is living in Paxton. In her free time, she likes being outside on the farm or hiking and sightseeing. “I also love to go to concerts and listen to about any kind of music,” she adds. “I was active in FFA throughout school, so I like to stay involved with that and with 4-H as well. I learned great things from participating in those activities growing up, so this is a chance to pass that on.”
