Two Decades of Seed Experience
As one of the new faces on the United Prairie team, I’ll take this opportunity to introduce myself. I grew up on the family farm near Hoopeston, IL. I earned my bachelor’s degree in ag business from Illinois State University and went right to work for Illini FS. Ultimately, after working for another independent fertilizer company, I started working for AgriGold Seed—and stayed there for 20 years.
Ultimately, I worked my way up to regional sales manager for AgriGold covering southwest Illinois and northeast Missouri. I managed, motivated, and trained 11 salespeople in that role. When I was a district sales manager, I also had the chance to observe United Prairie, and I had a lot of respect for them. I also knew Tim Hughes and a lot of farmers who work with United Prairie. They appeared to be a progressive, well-run company, and that impression has been confirmed in my first few weeks on the job.
As seed manager, I’ll be doing direct sales out on the farm, working with our sales force, and evaluating the hybrids and varieties we’ll be bringing to the farm. My goal is to have the customers we serve view United Prairie as their Seed Expert.
The face-to-face interaction with farmers has always been one of the best parts of being in the seed business to me. So if I haven’t met you yet, I’m looking forward to doing that.
